Inspiring Communities Community Chorus Sing-along for Local MP

Beloved charity Inspiring Communities is the latest to become one of Alyn’s Local Heroes – an award anonymously nominated by members of the public to businesses, charities and organisations across Stirling who go the extra mile for the community.

Joining a session of ‘community chorus’ with a host of volunteers and singers, Mr Smith was delighted to take part in the fun and laughter of an afternoon session. The charity co-designs, develops and delivers people-centred regeneration activities in Stirling – encompassing employability, training, digital, volunteering, intergenerational and early years activities, along with services designed to tackle social isolation and loneliness.

Speaking with staff members Janette Mitchell and Susan Currie afterwards, Alyn Smith heard more about the important work carried forward by the organisation. Amidst the ongoing cost of living crisis, services offered by staff and volunteers have been invaluable, especially in providing warm spaces and facilitating advice clinics from partners such as Citizens Advice.

Janette Mitchell, Executive Director said:

‘It was a real pleasure to have Alyn come along to our session and meet with our guests who love attending our activities. We work with, and in, Inspiring Communities across Stirling, and they have much to be proud of. The team and I really enjoy doing what we can to help strengthen that community spirit, build resilience and have our guests leave with a smile on their face. There’s no denying that times out there are extremely tough, even more so with high bills and high anxiety about the future. We’re very proud of the work we do to invest in our people, our neighbourhoods and our community – and we thank Alyn for his ongoing support.’

Alyn Smith MP said:

‘It never fails to amaze me the amount of good work going on across Stirling to improve lives and the place we call home. What the team achieves here on a weekly basis is invaluable – working with people to build up their skills and confidence, provide in-roads to support and advice services, and generally giving people a reason to smile. The cost of living crisis has robbed us all of certainty, and joy can be hard to come by. But the team at Inspiring Communities really do live up to their name – what a fantastic asset for Stirling.’
