Alyn Smith Promotes Cycling and Independent Stirling Businesses

Stirling MP Alyn Smith has encouraged Stirling residents to support their local bike businesses on Local Bike Shop Day, and consider cycling more this coming summer.

Local Bike Shop Day takes place on Saturday 29th April this year, and is celebrated every year nationwide. Working with the Association of Cycle Traders, the campaign seeks to raise public awareness of the great independent biking shops available in local areas, and promote safer cycling.

Stirling is home to several well-respected independent cycling businesses, encompassing repair, retail and rental – as well as the well-used NextBike hire scheme. 6.5km of new cycling infrastructure is currently under construction across the city of Stirling, linking the University of Stirling and Forth Valley college with the newly refurbished Stirling Rail Station.

Stirling MP Alyn Smith said:

‘As the warmer – and hopefully drier – weather approaches, cycling is a fantastic way to see more of Stirling. Whether it’s sightseeing or commuting, cycling is a greener and healthier way to get around. And with the soon-to-be completed cycling infrastructure around the City of Stirling, the safety of cyclists, pedestrians and road users will be massively improved.

‘We have amazing, independent cycling businesses across the whole of the Stirling area. This Local Bike Shop Day, I urge residents and visitors to support our city centre and high streets – and get on your bikes!’
