Charity Supporting the Stirling Community

Local MP Alyn Smith has praised a local charity for their work in keeping people warm this winter and spring.

The Winter Warmers Community Hub launched in the Thistles shopping centre at the beginning of February, and has already had a real impact on the lives of visitors.

Part of the #ThistleHelps campaign, the initiative is run by Transition Stirling and open until April. Open Tuesdays to Saturdays 10am – 5pm, volunteers stock pre-loved but excellent condition outer and knitwear, offered on a ‘pay what you can’ basis.

Those unable to make a donation can simply swap their existing coat for something warmer – in a judgement free environment.

Alyn Smith MP said:

‘Transition Stirling does a power of work in the community to help us all live our lives more sustainably. Their Winter Warmers Community Hub initiative is fantastic, offering real, tangible help to Stirling’s vulnerable residents and visitors. It is an absolute travesty that people are freezing in their own homes to begin with, and I again urge the UK Government to do what it takes to support households with their eye-watering energy bills.

‘A huge well done to all the staff and volunteers at Transition Stirling and the Thistles Centre – this is Stirling at its best, helping our fellow community members in their time of need.’
