A special Cost of Living event aiming to help local residents tackle soaring costs is taking place in Raploch, Stirling, on Monday the 3rd October.

The event, which is being organised by the MP and MSP of Stirling, will give constituents the opportunity to speak to experts on energy costs, benefit entitlements and personal finances.

Local organisations will also be at the event to answer constituent questions, including Social Security Scotland and British Gas.

The event will be held at Raploch Community Centre on Monday 3rd October, from 2:30pm until 7pm and aims to help constituents find a way through the current economic crisis.

Monday the 3rd is also the beginning of Challenge Poverty Week, a week of events and activity dedicated to highlighting and finding solutions for poverty in Scotland.

Alyn Smith, MP for Stirling, said:

‘Communities and businesses across Stirling are suffering from ongoing economic instability and soaring bills – with winter and colder temperatures fast approaching. With soaring energy costs, increasing food bills, an unstable currency and rising prices, people are struggling more than ever.

‘We’ve a team approach here in Stirling and as your MSP and MP respectively, Evelyn Tweed and I are committed to doing what we can to support households and industry, signpost to available support, and keep up pressure on policymakers at all levels to act with urgency on this cost of living crisis.

‘This event will be open to all and completely free, with members of both our offices available to field any other support enquiry that our constituents raise too. I urge anyone in need of support this winter to get in touch.’

Evelyn Tweed, MSP for Stirling, said:

‘People in Stirling are very anxious about spiralling bills and everyday costs, with most people feeling dread about what lies ahead.

‘The organisations attending this event in Raploch have been chosen for their expert knowledge in matters relevant to every age group and background. They’ll be sharing insight and valuable information on the benefits and support packages available, as well as giving advice on how to cope with the considerable strain and pressure that the cost of living crisis is causing.

‘I hope to see as many people there as possible so that we can start really addressing what is a truly worrying and difficult time for people in Stirling.
