Local MP Hails Positive Future for Cononish Mine
Stirling MP Alyn Smith has welcomed renewed investment and focus from Scotgold Resources Ltd, to unlock the full potential of Scotland’s only operational gold mine.
Set discreetly in the hills near Tyndrum, various initiatives have been undertaken over the years to ascertain the quantity, quality and location of gold within the hill – and, under refreshed management, Scotgold’s persistence has finally paid off.
With mine operations running to schedule and production ramping up, Mr Smith heard from CEO Phil Day over future plans to firmly secure community benefit from this fantastic resource for generations to come, including further local and Scottish employment opportunities, educational sponsorships and investment in community projects.

‘Stirling is blessed with a spectacular natural landscape, and I was mightily impressed with the measures ScotGold have put in place to ensure their mining operations conform to strict National Park rules and regulations. It was fascinating to see the working gold mine up close, and learn more about this brilliant resource.
‘Tyndrum, Stirling and Scotland stand to benefit hugely from increased employment and investment in our communities. In these difficult financial times, it’s important for government, business and communities to work together productively to ensure everyone can benefit from responsible economic development.’
