 Stirling Constituents Left in Limbo

Local Stirling MP Alyn Smith has called for swift improvements to DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) services, following reports of long delays, communication issues and gridlock at the agency – in some cases, for up to six months.

Several constituents have been in touch with Mr Smith, detailing excruciating waits in the renewal and registration of licences and documentation. Whilst the impact of the pandemic on government services is understandable, delays may end up impacting Stirling’s economic recovery as businesses, particularly in the logistics sector, face long delays for vital paperwork.

Rural communities who especially rely on car travel as a means of travel have been left less than impressed. Issues in applications and communication with the agency have continued for over a year in some instances.

Local MP Alyn Smith said:

‘Everyone understands the pressure public and private services have been under during this pandemic. But almost two years on, we need action to tackle DVLA delays. First-time drivers, those renewing licences and the logistics sector are all trying to recover from the pandemic and move on with their lives.

‘It is simply unacceptable for communications to break down between citizens and public services, to the extent enquiries have gone unanswered for months. I’m calling on the UK Government to urgently get a grip of this situation, which continues to have a profound impact on people and businesses across Stirling.’
