Stirling MP Alyn Smith has backed cross-party calls to the UK Chancellor, pushing for urgent action regarding the 2.93 million people across the UK who remain excluded from Covid-19 related financial support schemes.

The letter, signed by dozens of MPs from the Gaps in Support All Party Parliamentary Group, challenges the Treasury to address the serious gaps in support schemes that have led, in some instances, to taxpayers being frozen out completely from their entitled support.

Alyn Smith MP said:

‘It remains absolutely scandalous there are millions of working people across these islands who have been categorically denied financial support from the government during one of the worst health disasters this century.

‘The Gaps in Support group within the UK Parliament have laid the evidence at the Chancellor’s door – it’s down to the Treasury and wider UK Government to accept there have been failings in support, recognise the difficulties faced by millions of constituents up and down the country, and undertake urgent action to resolve this injustice.’
