The Stirling Council area is set to move down from Level 4 to Level 3 within Scotland’s Strategic Framework, the overarching plan to tackle the spread of COVID-19 in Scotland.

The announcement today (Tuesday 8th December) by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon will be welcomed by residents and businesses across Stirling, but caution is still urged as the winter unfolds. The easing of restrictions takes effect from Friday 11th November.

Non-essential retail will be able to re-open and trade , as will hospitality businesses; albeit with some restrictions around the sale of alcohol and opening times.

The full list of restrictions for various situations and sectors of the economy can be found on the Scottish Government website: https://www.gov.scot/coronavirus-covid-19/

Bruce Crawford MSP said:

‘This is welcome news, and demonstrates the value of enhanced, time bound restrictions. I realise many households, residents and businesses will remain both nervous and restless in this ever-changing period – and I completely understand that.

‘Local businesses will be glad for the ability to re-open and capture some of the vital festive trade. I continue to urge local residents to shop responsibly and support their local retailers where they can. The news on reviewed guidance for households over the festive period should also be treated with caution. COVID-19 doesn’t take a holiday, and we can’t let our guard down just yet.’

Alyn Smith MP said:

‘Stirling’s infection figures have improved, down to the hard work of our front line workers, healthcare staff and the daily sacrifices so many residents are making to curtail the spread of COVID-19. Whilst this development is welcoming, progress is fragile and easily undone. Recent events in Wales stands testament to that.

‘I urge all Stirling residents to remain cautious, stick to the public health guidance, and to support their local businesses wherever possible through any festive spending. This has been a difficult time for a lot of people, but with vaccinations beginning this week in Scotland, the end of this nightmare is in sight.
