Stirling representatives Bruce Crawford MSP and Alyn Smith MP have urged visitors to stick to the current COVID-19 health guidance from the Scottish Government and stay away from Stirling for now.

The weekend saw several sites across Stirling and the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park being overrun with visitors. Council car parks and facilities, including toilets, remain closed in line with current national guidance to avoid a resurgence in Covid-19 infections.

Stirling Council is working closely with Police Scotland and National Park authorities to ensure a consistent approach to public messaging, and full enforcement of the restrictions.

Alyn Smith MP said:

“Stirling has a world-renowned tourism industry, and we’re keener than anyone to see it restarted, but we’re still in a pandemic and health comes first.

“Car parks are closed, toilets are closed, hotels, cafes and restaurants are closed. Please stay close to home and don’t travel long distances.”

Bruce Crawford MSP said:

“Communities right across Stirling have voiced their concerns to us about high visitor numbers to well-known tourist hotspots. We implore people  to remain local, limit non-essential trips and avoid tourist attractions. To do otherwise is showing a lack of concern for people’s health as well as our dedicated NHS and Care workers.

“The progress we’ve made as a nation in tackling COVID-19 remains extremely fragile. Continued breaches of regulations could very well see us back under a stricter lockdown and all of us will suffer.

“We’d like to acknowledge and thank the hard work and dedication shown by Stirling Council Officers, Police Scotland and the National Park in working together to address resident concerns. However, tougher enforcement may be needed to protect the public’s health.”
